Translate WordPress Theme: Overview

  • Inside the directory of our theme wp-content/themes/theme_name/languages, you can find two files that are involved in translation :  en.po file and en.mo file.
  • PO stands for for Portable Object. The .po file is a list of all English texts found within the theme. We will use this file to translate.
  • MO stands for Machine Object. The .mo file is the binary file of the .po file and not human-readable. It will be auto-generated for you by traslation tool.
