I was unable to get the quickstart package to work, gave up, and installed the theme manually. Now I’m having unable to get the page to display any content, and the documentation videos only demonstrate functionality that is unavailable if you do not use the quickstart package. For example, the page attribute section doesn’t have any child options (preventing me from adding sections). Is there any way to get the demo content (or even the base page content) installed without doing a complete uninstall/reinstall? I was unable to get the quickstart package to connect to the database, even after editing the config file.

Admittedly, this is a repeat of http://designwall.com/question/how-to-configure-dw-page-theme-like-demo/ but that question was resolved offline and will not help me in this situation.

Hello Laurainash !

Please unzip the download package. Then look for Quickstart folder, and use this folder to install the theme.

You can see our guide here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHDhd-dHpXs

Dominic

This didn’t fix the issue, but I did uninstall my existing WordPress instance and was able to get it to work after some fiddling with the config file. It seems like many people are having similar issues; it might be worth additional documentation and step by step walkthroughs in the future to avoid frustration.

Curious what you did to finally make it work. I’m having issues with the install as well.

Apologies if I use the wrong nomenclature, but this is how I got the quickstart package to work. I never got the “create a config” message in the installation video; I kept getting a message that there was an error accessing the database. Here’s how I got around it:

1. Install a database on your server if there isn’t one already. This should help you if you’re new to the process: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Step_2:_Create_the_Database_and_a_User

2. Update the wp-config.php file in the Quickstart file with the  correct information from your database. WordPress again gives better instructions here than I can: http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php

3. Follow the first step in the quickstart installation video: Upload the folder dw_page_quickstart to your webserver and access it in your browser (yourserver.com/dw_page_quickstart). If your wp_config file isn’t correct, you’ll get an error saying the site can’t access the database.

4. Fast forward the quickstart video to 0:25. The rest of the video should walk you through the install step by step.

To uploading to the webserver, please, find “quickstart” folder and unzip it and you upload all the file in the folder quickstart.

Please find my instruction here:

step3. copy all and paste into “www” or “htdocs” fonlder on your localhost.

you can use FTP software to upload it into your hosting.

Thanks, Dominic. I’ve had the theme correctly installed for awhile now, but was just documenting the extra troubleshooting steps I went through to get the quickstart file to work for me. I never had a problem moving the quickstart file to my server, the issue was that I only got error messages at first. WordPress wouldn’t install the database for me as part of the quickstart installation, I had to install one on my own and update the config file. In case other people have the same problem, the answer above covered the extra steps I took to get the theme to work during my installation, to answer jediprophecy’s question.

For the record, I’ve had a few people reach out to me by email from this forum post, so it seems like this is a widespread problem. It would be worth adding additional steps to the standard documentation if at all possible.
