Is there a way to load the ask new question page with the category pre-selected?

Would it possible to pass a variable to the to ask new question page in the URL so that when the form loads, it loads with a category preselected?
I’m envisioning adding a custom menu link for this so that users don’t have to select the category when they ask their question. This can help with question routing so that the right people answer the question, I’ve come across a use case where something like this would be useful.
