Open media linked in new tab

Hello,
in the previous DWQA version (1.3) there was a workaround to open linked media files (like pictures) in a new tab. It consisted in adding some code to the footer.php file.
I tried it with the 1.4 version and it doesn’t work anymore.
Is there another solution?
