I’ve actually been wondering about this myself, if perhaps when viewing the site on a computer as opposed to a mobile device if it would make more sense to show the word Menu instead of the 3-bar icon. I’ve been meaning to ask if you could set that up, but then I saw this article which is worth taking a look at:

In any case, it would be nice to be able to display something clearly, especially on the desktop, since not everyone will understand what the 3-bar icon is when viewed on a computer.

What exactly does this do? It appears to change the icon to the text ‘SIDEBAR’. Is this on desktop and mobile? or just desktop? Can you make this adjustable? Like if I wanted it to be ‘MENU’ instead. You should read the article I linked to above, it’s very interesting. I would perhaps want a combination of the hamburger icon and the word MENU small underneath it. Thanks.

Hi Philip,
I will resolve this issue in next version of the theme. A quick note that, we call it Sidebar because it’s actually a sidebar, to distinguish with the main menu.
For now, If you want replace “Sidebar” by “menu” please following instruction here:
– go  your site / wp-content / themes / your theme / templates / sidebar.php. – Then replace following code – line 23

 <?php _e('Sidebar','dw-timeline') ?>

by

 <?php _e('Menu','dw-timeline') ?>

Hope this helps!

I understand it’s a sidebar, I just think that people think of menus, not sidebars. It’s not that Sidebar is wrong, it’s just that Menu will click half a second sooner to a user than Sidebar.

Did you get it work Philip?

I was wondering, does this change it on the desktop and on mobile, or just on the desktop? I think the hamburger icon is okay for mobile (where it is fairly common) but less so for the desktop.

I can understand your idea Philip. However, I think it will make the custom work a bit more complicated, won’t it? If you can recognize that, in mobile devices we have 2 icons: for Sidebar and Menu. Basically you will need to set icon for desktop, mobile (2 for mobile) and tablet separately.
We will discuss about this issue, for now, if you want to, our staff can provide you with code solution for you to change the icon.
