Did Avatar system disappear

When I updated to version 1.0.9, the avatar system disappeared. Is this expected behavior? It looks like the inc/simple-avatar.php file was removed. I had removed the entire dwfocus folder and replaced it with the version 1.0.9 version. Was this incorrect way to upgrade?

To resolve this issue, you can use the Add Local Avatar plugin. Please find the plugin here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/add-local-avatar/
