One of our clients needed a migration from DW Focus 1.1 to 1.3.2. After the migration, the whole layout was “messed up”, because the widgets had been removed. We started the long and painful process of adding each widget back, but we noticed that the ones available with DWF 1.3 are different from the ones in DWF 1.3. We tried to find the matching widgets by trial and error, yet there are some that we cannot find.
Example
DWF 1.1, Category widget

  • Original widget: http://prntscr.com/cprp4p
  • Original behaviour: http://prntscr.com/cprpn6

DWF 1.3, Category widget is missing. Closest widget seems to be News List

  • New widget: http://prntscr.com/cprpy6
  • New behaviour (incorrect): http://prntscr.com/cprqoy

Are we missing something obvious here? Is there a guide showing how to port the layout that used the old widgets to the new one?

Hi, so sorry for my late reply, from DW Focus 1.1 to 1.3.x, a lots of thing change, some widget is removed and change to new one so the old widget will be dissapeared. There are some new sidebar too, so the place of the widget will mess up. If you have any problem or have difficulties when migrate to new version of dw focus, i’ll support you. You can provide your site and an admin account here via private answer and we;’ll help you build it.

you could use our document here : https://www.designwall.com/guide/dw-focus/

Unfortunately, the documentation didn't help. I had to figure things out by trial and error.

Now I need to know is how to fix what I already described.

DWF 1.1, Category widget
– Original behaviour: http://prntscr.com/cprpn6

DWF 1.3, News List widget
– New behaviour (incorrect): http://prntscr.com/cprqoy

I won't be able to provide access to the live site, I would just need the information to fix the above.

Hi, for this issue, at the version from 1.2.6, we’ve change the process there from an ajax load to redirect to the category page for better performance and speed up the website. I’m afraid it’s hard to get it back 🙁

As a side note, the DW Mega Menu seems buggy as well. I added a support request here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/sub-menus-are-not-showing-content/. We would need to get that fixed, quite quickly.

Hi, about the megamenu, it’s conflict with this plugin : Business Directory Plugin – Featured Levels Module
i’ve turn it of and it works now
what did that plugin do?

I’m not sure how you could turn off a plugin without access to the site (and, especially, without explicit permission from the site owner).

That plugin is used to display some featured categories, and must be kept enabled. The older mega menu was working fine with that installed, therefore I would suggest to address whatever change was made in the newer version of the menu and restore its functionality.

hmm, this menu is like a new plugin, i'm incharge of set up the demo for you before so i have an account to access :D, that plugin like broke the dropdown function , i mean if you turn on, the relate dropdown not work to, not only the megamenu, please try to update that plugin to the latest version first.

It seems that updating the plugin did the trick. I didn’t notice that it was outdated, sorry about that.

As a side note, my client opened a support request with you recently (here name is Jenna), but she hasn’t received a reply yet.
She would like to change the responsiveness of the DW Focus theme, so that the sidebar “snaps” to the bottom at a lower resolution. Currently, the theme sets the threshold to 1200px, which is too high. She would like to have the full layout, with the sidebar on the right, displayed up until 1024px or so. Thanks.

Hm, so sorry that i’m not getting here request.. normally i’m working on the live chat channel, you might contact me there by click to the popup button at the bottom right conner.
I’m not getting her idea, can you provide me a picture to illustrate it or describe it more clearly for me ?

I can tell you how to see the issue “live”:
1. Go to http://www.epspecialneedsconnect.com/. You will see a sidebar on the right.
2. Resize the browser window until it’s 1200 pixels wide. You will see that the sidebar “disappears”, because it goes below the main content.

This happens because the DW Focus theme has a style that forces the main content to become 100% wide at a resolution of 1200px and lower. Instead, the client wants the sidebar to stay visible up to 1024 pixels.

I you have a way to contact you directly, I will pass the information to the client, so that you can communicate with them more quickly. Thanks.

hmm i got 2 site :
http://www.epspecialneedsconnect.com/
http://www.eparent.com/

is this two from you 😀 at the time i update to 1.3.2 i’ve also reduce the container width to 1040px . So you want at both site, when in 1024px you still want to see the sidebar, if less the sidebar will move down right?
you can contact me via live chat, i’m working there.

Yes. The client wants the sidebar to be visible at 1024px (1200 is still quite wide, no point in “snapping” the sidebar down).

I can’t be on the live chat at the moment, I’m afraid, but I can relay any information to the client. The idea would be to get some CSS that we can add to the child theme’s stylesheet.

ok, i got the idea, i’ve pass your problem to my colleague Dominic, he’s an expert and really good at styling, he’ll take care of the restyle to add to the child theme for you.
