How to add widget to home page

I have Main Sidebar, Sidebar 6 and Sidebar 7 only available within Customizer, despite having other sidebars clearly shown under Widgets.
e.g. I can’t get the client logos to display unless I place the widget in Sidebar 7.
Do I need to make any mods to the code or should all these sidebar positions be available?
(I am used to purity_iii template within Joomla).
Also, where can I edit the About // Contact // Connect // Newsletter text?

Sorry but there’s so little documentation there it’s really no use. I think I should get a refund on this theme and go and find another one. I have now wasted two days and I am still a long way from a working site.
