Is it possible to add the search field into the main menu header on the right hand side near social icons and ‘+’ symbol?

Of course ! At the moment, you only possible add the social icon in the Main menu, please log in to Dashboard > Customize > Social Setting, then add your link in the Text field of each social.

Sorry, what i mean is can i insert a search Textbox(to search blog posts) into the header area?

You can use the Search box on Navigation Menu plugin. Please find the plugin here: http://wordpress.org/plugins/search-box-on-navigation-menu/screenshots/
Note: After installing this plugin, you can add the following code to the style.css file:
.menu #searchForm {
height: 30px !important;
margin-top: 11px;
}
