For eg., if i have a topic/question which i want to discuss only with a restricted group of people, is that possible. i understand that a private question will be visible to only the author and site admin.
Is there a way i can make any question/answer accessible to a group of users – so that the discussion can be carried on only among members of that group, and not visible to all other users.
Please clarify.

I think if you want to do that kinda thing then it can only be done by setting roles for users of your sites with different privileges coz for now it would be 0 or 1 situation thats either the user browsing the site is admin or he/she is ordinary visiter ,we cant categorise visiters of our site as private question asker member unless they get registered on the site with a specific role,as far as i know the kinda thing you are requesting is not possible for now but its a great idea and may be possible in future versions of the dwqa plugin but i would recommend you to try and test different role specifier plugins taht are available in wordpress directory and see if you can find and build a customised solution for your own thanks ย

Hi wellwisher,

Thanks for the detailed clarification. Got it!

i was wondering if i install buddypress in my site, i can create a hidden or private group accessible only by select members. And i integrate DW Q&A plugin for the question and answers. Then any question/answer posted within that group will not be accessible by rest of the community (restricted only to members of that particular group).
Do you think this is a feasible option? Have i understood it right?
Or is it that any public question/answer posted on the forum, will still be visible to all users, irrespective of the group(s) they belong to?

Please enlighten me.

I think it will still be visible to all the users as even if you make private groups they are not connected to dwqa questions plugin the questions asked will be still available there at the questions list ,the posts you will make in secret group will completely independent of the dwqa questions ,but i have compiled few links that may help achieving this functionality the plugins are old but if dwqa is watching this discussion they can implement such kinda functionality for sure, here are the links to few good reads:

These are the best ones i could find but attaching this kinda broad roles functionality can only be done by designwall team (i think its in the hand of the question asker who he/she wants to be able to see the question so there should be some kinda tagging system along with the private question)

https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role/screenshots/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/webmaster-user-role/screenshots/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/sidebar-per-user-role/screenshots/
The other thing that can be done is by setting the different user roles during the registration process according to your requirements and the getting the user role using this plugin i listed below
https://wordpress.org/plugins/get-user-role/
The next thing would be matching the user role and then allowing the question to be viewed accordingly,i dont know what hook dwqa uses to check if the question is private or not may be they could see into it and help you achieve what you want.

Thanks

if user role=friend
then visibility=allowed
else disallow
but the catch here is adding more options to drop down along with "private" "public" such as "friend""friend of friends" and so on lets wait and watch if designwall can bring that on in the future versions ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the suggestions & inputs well wisher! Appreciate your help!!
yes, it would be great if designwall can implement this feature in future versions, because what i want is not really a role-based solution, but a solution where any user (irrespective of his role) is able to share his question/answer with one/more users (irrespective of their roles). if i were to designate roles to each user and decide upon his/her accessibility rights, that will become a tedious exercise, since this is a fast growing community of users and managing each user’s role from the backend is not a practical solution.

Thanks again for your analysis and support!
