Good product.  Great look.  I have a specific scenario.  I want users to be able to anonymously ask questions.  But I only want Admins to be allowed to answer the question.  So anonymous users can post the question.  But anonymous users cannot post replies or answers.  I know that is a different intention than what this product is meant to do.  But I would like to use this product and solve this requirement.  Where can I find and edit the rights/capabilities of the anonymous user?  Thanks so much.

That’s an excellent question! I’m looking forward to hearing their replies too, because I’d love that feature/capability.

The question raised here is spot on!. You have the best Q&A WordPress plugin by far, however without the anonymous – ask a question feature, it isn’t a good fit for our site. This makes sense when using the tool for not only Q&A but also as an FAQ. We have the same scenario as described by KS above. Our users come to us to ask religious or personal questions (sometimes requiring a private response). We’re not looking for other visitors to respond. Instead, we have one individual do the research and post a well thought out response based on facts.
I truly believe you would have an edge over all other WP Q&A/FAQ type plugins. Please consider 🙂

NOTE: I see in a post by BigHug that you are working on it. Any updates?

Thanks for your response.  That’s great news. It would be swell if there were, in settings, a Moderate checkbox too – I’ve seen a request for that – as well as a more granular Anonymous User section such as: Users can post new questions.  Users can post answers.  And, heck while we are at it, Users can post follow up Questions to their own question – a sort of dialogue thread, but only for a question they originated.  Where either or all three options could be selected (or more logically where User Subscribe was available IF Users Can Post Answers is set to No.)  Meanwhile, your Notifications module is quite robust and aesthetic too.  Those modifications give it all the functionality it has now but also turns into a very useful Ask the Expert sort of plugin.

Hi Kevin,
We got your idea. This Anonymous section will be put in Settings and you can freely check/uncheck the options.
Also talking about Anonymous, we are thinking about an option that Subscribed users can choose to post a question or answer under Anonymous. What do you think?
Besides, we have backlog of features and functions which we have ambition to upgrade this Q&A plugin and make it into a good support tool for WordPress sites.
Cheers

Hi Jin.  Is this release coming soon?  I postponed solving this on my own for your update.  But I am going to have to resolve a solution shortly.  I hope your update is coming.  Thanks so much for your attention.

Apologies. I have updated to your newest release, 1.0.2 and now, under Settings, I see a new tab called Permissions where, for User Role Subscriber, I want to check Post for Questions; but I want to uncheck Post, Edit, and Delete for Answers. But on my DW Q&A Settings > Permissions tab – in multiple browsers – all these options are unchangeable. Is there some WordPress User setting I need to edit in order to activate these toggles? So close. Thank you.

Hi Kevin, could you please let us know on here when it’s available??
I’m another one that is desparate for that (infact i didn’t realize my users currently can’t post questions because of this :(….(we have around 500 visitors a day and this is the main reason they come to the page..:/))

thanks!

Hey guys,
The latest version of Question & Answer plugin: 1.0.4 is already OUT.
If you have already read our blog, you may know that we have added Permission Settings function in the admin panel, where you can control who can post on Question page.
There will be settings for anonymous users: they can read all questions & answers, post answers and comments, but not yet questions.
Check out details at: http://cmspioneer.com/designwall/blog/wordpress-dw-question-answer-plugin-stion-and-answer-upgraded-with-bug-fixes-and-improvements/
Cheers
P.S: a new version 1.1.0 of the plugin with a makeover on UI will be released this week. Stay tuned!

Hi Jin and Dominic,

Thanks for your answers! But the tick box to allow anonymous users to answer questions is still greyed out…
Also, you guys mentioned that translations would be released. But mine still doesn’t translate:(…thanks a lot for your help as always!

Hi there,

1. Anonymous question: no we do not support that feature yet, all questions require login or register.
2. Translation: our plugin now support to be translated in to other languages. It does not auto-translate. You can check out our user guide for more details regarding to translation function:

Hey there Jin and Dominic,
Any news on whether you’re going to allow anonymous asking? I have use case that is very similar to the original poster’s.
I write stories about job openings, and anonymity is super important. Basically, my readers are afraid to identify themselves because their current bosses would then know that they’re looking for a new job. Ideally, I’d like this:

  • Anonymous (and higher) can ask. These are mostly professionals who need confidentiality.
  • Contributors (and higher) can answer. These will mostly be the companies I write about, who I will give contributor status.
  • Anyone can comment.

I’d like this to be available on about one third of my posts, which I was planning to do using the embed plugin-to-the-plugin. I’d then hide the main question page from readers, but use it internally to keep track of everything. (BTW, I’m using the DW Argo theme.)
There’s a good chance I’m misunderstanding some things here, as I’ve just started to play around, but if you can give me an idea of if/when/which of these things are possible, I’d be grateful!
Thanks!

Uh crud. I dug around more and am pretty sure my suggestion/need is impossible. Or if it IS possible, let me know!

Dear Jackson Solway,
We are planning for the features “Anonymous can ask question” and will add this feature to the core of the DWQA plugin. Please stay tuned and I will let you know once released.
The function “Contributors can answer”. Of course, it is ready in the previous versions of the plugin, you can set up it under Dashboard >> DW Q&A >> Settings >> Permissions
Regarding “Anyone can comment”, as anonymous can ask, we need more time to analysis and consider to develop it into core of the plugin in next time.
The question here is how to properly handle the register process as well as reasonably store all data into the database.
I know you are an experienced person with WordPress and we are looking forward to receiving your cooperation about these features.
