How can we protect changes to files that we have altered?
I ask this due to the recent update that put back changes to some files that we found problems in and we then had to change them again. Is there a guide for overriding the files so changes are not lost on updates?
Regards
Mike
Hi Mike,
The best option would be to keep your edited files in your themes subfolder which is described in the link below:
This way you can update proof your files.
Best regards
Thanks Guru. I was looking at that before but being fairly new to WP (used Joomla for many years) I was a bit lost.
It is getting to the stage I am going to offer to pay someone to make changes for me.
I will have a go and see what happens. I tried the BP integration from that page but on managed to get the following error:
/public_html/wp-content/themes/Builder-Air-Custom/functions.php on line 80
The error is incomplete and doesn’t seem to provide much info here. Why not send me your login details and I will see how I can help!
How would I send you my login details Guru? Wouldn’t want to put them here and I cannot see a private message system anywhere.
@aussiemike you can copy all files from <your-plugins-folder>/dw-question-answer/inc/templates/default/ into <your-current-theme-folder>/dwqa-templates/
Then you can make all change on these files and not be replaced when you update the plugin.
Thanks @BigHug
Would I only put the files that I have made changes to into that directory?
If there is an important update with a change to one of the files I have edited and moved how would the changes from that file be applied to the plugin?
Sorry for my inexeperience.
Mike
